Dear Parents and Students

Welcome to first grade!  We will be doing exciting things this year.  In science, we will be hatching chickens, raising frogs and butterflies.  In math we will start off with a review and work up to adding and subtracting double digits. We will also be using Simple Solutions and First in Math.  We will cover a wide variety of things such as maps, important people as well as each child will do a report on a state.  Periodically you will receive a Family Time page from religion.  This is not homework but it does give some nice ideas for at home activities.  This will also keep you aware of what we are learning in religion.  There will be tests but, other than social studies most of the studying will be in the classroom.  We will be making a keepsake photo album with Mrs. Erdely.  The first grade will create podcasts. I also plan on continuing using skype in the classroom so they can connect with classes around the world.

The duck made it through the night.  It actually seems to be doing good. The three oldest ducks went to their new home.  Two more ducks are trying to hatch.

Three ducks hatched today.  One has been trying to hatch for the last two days.  He really looks bad.  His neck is bent and he can not stand up.  He keeps falling onto his back.  I put him with the rest and will hold my fingers crossed till tomorrow.

The students had a very good time feeding the chicks and watching the duck swim.

The students arrived today to find not one but three hatched ducklings,

The duck began hatching this morning and by 3:30 it made it out of the egg.

The chickens are starting to get their feathers. I also looks like a few of the duck eggs may be starting to hatch!!
